Wicked Surpasses Les Misérables in the Record Books

Broadway’s ‘Wicked’ continues with its meteoritic rise by surpassing Les Misérables as the 5th longest-running Broadway production. On October 28, Wicked played show number 6,681 at the Gershwin Theatre in New York – earning a place in the “top 5 club of musical veterans.”

Coincidentally, the international hit musical was two nights away from their 16th anniversary. Since opening in 2003, wicked has been bewitching ecstatic viewers in 15 countries and over 100 cities around the globe – it’s not a surprise that the musical has been translated into 6 languages.

The captivating tale of OZ before the arrival of Dorothy is based on Gregory Maguire’s novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. The stage adaptation is credited to Winnie Holzman with music and lyrics from Stephen Schwartz. The musical is produced by David Stone, Jon B. Platt, Marc Platt, The Araca Group, and Universal Stage Productions.

The current cast is played by Ginna Claire Mason (Glinda), Hannah Corneau (Elphaba), Michael McCormick (The Wizard), Nancy Opel (Madame Morrible), Jake Boyd (Fiyero), Costello (Boq), Gizel Jiménez (Nessarose), and Riley Jamie Jackson (Doctor Dillamond).
