“Wicked” Put On a Gravity-Defying Show at Charlotte

I had the opportunity to see “Wicked” in New York City’s Gershwin Theater and had an awe-inspiring experience. I had a memorable time at the shows that for weeks I kept thinking about the show.

But I had pondered whether I should go see the show at Charlotte – the Oven Auditorium several weeks back; however, as soon as I saw an Instagram post for students of UNC Charlotte to see the show for just $10, it became something that I wouldn’t miss. I was lucky enough to get my ticket before it sold out.

I picked up my Wicked tickets after undergoing an easy process. I observed members of the audience standing and watching the warm-up event for the orchestra. The drums had a dramatic sound that kept building up the show’s expectations.

The theatre was full of people in their thousands, all masked up. It was a mid-blowing experience in the middle of a weird pandemic. When the show finally started, I began to get goosebumps all over my body. Every song moved me. From the show’s songs down to its costumes, it felt like I was moved to different locations. The show’s first half was concluded with “Defying Gravity.” The actress who played Elphaba, Natalia Vivino, acted the life out of her, and her magical performance brought tears to my eyes.

A standing ovation greeted the performance, which led to an intermission. Every other song added a touch of magic to the show.
The performance left the crowd in a standing ovation leading into the intermission. The show had magical songs that added more magic to it. There were instrumental parts from “Defying Gravity” performed as Fiyero and Elphaba love ballad progressed.

Each song had a connection that demonstrates the final freedom of Elphaba from her human-created boundaries. From Glenda to Elphaba, all actors wonderfully brought their characters to life. They pulled everyone in the audience into the narrative of the story.

It would also be appropriate the commend the orchestra’s conductor. In the song – “The Wicked Witch of the East,” you could feel his passion from his mannerisms. After the show at night, I couldn’t help but smile and feel amazed. This was one of the best nights of my life.
