Wicked Debuts a New Concert Remake This Night on PBS
PBS tonight moves to mark a Broadway return of its WICKED SHOW-IN CONCERT, which is a musical show that has been packaged to celebrate songs from the famed musical show.
According to the organizers, this is an exclusive performance that will come with a recreated, new composition of songs from the show developed for broadcast. The new songs are performed by celebrated popular artists that have been drafted from the various worlds of television, film, and pop music.
The evening show will feature Tony and Emmy Award winners Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, who are original stars of the movie franchise. The two co-hosts will be joined on by Gavin Creel, a multi-award-winning actor. Other famous acting figures to join them up includes Ariana DeBose, a star of the new film, the WestSide Story (in post-production); Cynthia Erivo, triple award winner and a two-time nominee for the Academy Awards; Stephanie Hsu, known from The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel; Rita Moreno, an EGOT winner; Jennifer Nettles, a country artist with multiple awards; Alex Newell, the star from Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist; Isaac Powell, a celebrated nominee for the Grammys and a co-star of the new movie, Dear Evan Hansen (not yet released); Amber Riley, the star from Glee, a winner of the Olivier Award and a Grammy Award nominee; Gabrielle Ruiz, the popular star from the TV show – Crazy Ex-Girlfriend; as well as Ali Stroker, the star from the Glee Project and a Tony film Award winner.
There are several Wicked Musical numbers which the concert will feature. They include “As Long You’re Mine,” “For Good,” “No Good Deed,” “Wonderful,” “Popular,” “Defying Gravity,” and “The Wizard and I.”
Baayork Lee is the director of the WICKED SHOW-IN CONCERT. The arrangements for the orchestra had been a script from Luke Frazier, a musical director of the concert. He does this together with the members of the American Pops Group Orchestra. The project got filmed around multiple locations, which include Los Angeles, New York City, and Washington.
Based on Gregory Maguire’s novel, the lyrics and music were from Stephen Schwartz, and Winnie Holzman’s award-winning book, the movie – Wicked, investigates the events that occurred in the fictional Land of Oz, with a different plot twist. A long time before Dorothy steals the attention of the audience, another young lady, birthed with greenish emerald skin, blessed with the gifts of fieriness, smartness, and having a rare talent. However, it appears she is misunderstood.
At the time that finally runs into an exceptionally popular and lively blonde, at first, they were fierce rivals. However, this rivalry then progressed to an unlikely friendship, right up until the time that one of them was seen as being “wicked,” while the others were labeled as “being good.”
