Wicked Cancel Numerous Shows due to Poor Covid Test Results

The hit show Wicked in New York was expected to begin on Sunday but had to be cancelled due to the safety of people.

Covid-19 has once more, put an end to one of the most popular shows on Broadway. This Sunday, the show’s organizers were on Twitter to announce that many shows for the hit musical got cancelled because of testing results for covid. However, the play said that it will commence again by December 7th.

The show’s production – which has also been paused because of Covid-19 – was previously anticipated to begin on Sunday after an initial set of cancellations halted its progress.
A statement from the social media account of the show stated that “For the sake of the safety of everyone concerned, due to past covid test results and the absence of scheduled cast members, we shall be cancelling today’s show of the Wicked.”

“We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences that this cancellation might have caused to those who purchased tickets, however, we are prioritizing the health and safety of the audience, crew, cast, and the whole company.”

All ticket holders for the Sunday show were expecting to be fully refunded.
WNBC also reported that other shows on Broadway such as Aladdin and Chicago were cancelled too because of the Covid-19 tests after making a return this fall.

The show’s cancellation was announced as soon as it was reported that Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande would be making appearances in the film adaptation of the hit musical Elphaba and Glinda. The actresses and Jon. M. Chu, the show’s director took to their Instagram accounts to make the news known to their followers on Thursday.

Wicked musical first hit the stages back in October 2003 with the original cast members of Idina Menzel, Joel Grey, and Kristin Chenoweth respectively playing the roles of Elphaba, the Wizard, and Glinda.
