Universal Snatches Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande for Wicked the Musical
Erivo and Grande are ready to play Elphaba and Glinda, respectively. Both stars are set to feature in the special Wicked musical from the studios of Universal. Jon M. Chu is expected to sit on the director’s chair for this one. Chu has been associated with the show for several months while casting speculations about two primary roles for the film have been making the rounds for some months now. Taking to Instagram to break the good news to the fans, both Erivo and Grande used their respective accounts to share the latest update about the musical.
It was Grande who sent Erivo a message, saying that she was more than honored to star alongside the seasoned actress while sending the message with special floral arrangements.
Both Erivo and Grande are real stars, Grammy award-winning music icons, Grande got her roadway debut with “13” the musical while also starring in such shows like the “Victorious” and the forthcoming movie, “Don’t Look Up,” from Adam McKay.
Erivo has had a star-studded career – as her “The Color Purple” performance as Celie earned her a triple plaque (the Grammy, the Emmy, ad the Tony awards).
Wicked musical which is set to be the prequel to the show, “Wizard of Oz” touches on all the events that led up to the arrival of Dorothy in Oz. During the original version of the Wicked in New York, Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel both played Elphaba, who will go on to be the Wicked Witch of the West, while the role of the Good Witch is played by Glinda.
