Lindsay Pearce Talks About Her Return to the Elphaba Role

Due to previous reports, there will be a return of the Wicked musical to the Gershwin Theatre on Broadway on the 14th of September. Many past performers of the show will be returning to their former roles. Elphaba, like before, will be played by Lindsay Pearce. She had talked to Paul Wontorek, the Editor-in-Chief of Broadway.com, about her return to the show. Pearce had called the role a dreamy one as she talked to him. “I feel as though I have been singing the music since the age of 12. At the rear seat of a salon car, screaming my lungs out,” she explained. “It is a different thing when you have to do this for about eight different times in one week.”

Pearce commented about accepting the challenging role as Elphaba. “She’s got an intense personality. She’s is a bombastic person. She literally wears everything on her sleeve. I have never being a part of such a full production taking place in New York. I never took part of anything happening on the Broadway schedule. It is unbelievable. This is not something you can scoff at. The people here are Olympians,” she had explained.

Pearce seems ready as the show gets ready for its Broadway return. “I am really mentally prepared for the show. I will never waste a single moment. It feels like somebody can just become fully engrossed in their own experience and go like, ‘This is too hard. Today, I feel very sad. I feel tired,’ Rather than seeing this as a disadvantage, I am compelled to see things for the opportunity that they are.”

She had mentioned the previous stars that have graced the show. “With the Gershwin, you get this amazing feeling of walking in the very same boards from the days of Stephanie J. Block, Julia Murney, and Idina Menzel – all of these titans have filled those same boots – it is truly amazing,” she explained.

“We have this amazing women sisterhood that looks like, ‘We know your role in the show. We see that green hairline.’ You have a spirit of companionship.”
