Jake Gyllenhaal with a Parody of Wicked in SNL Cameo

You may know him from Dan Gilroy’s Nightcrawler or as the cunning Mysterio in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. Jake Gyllenhaal is an actor who has a knack for jaw-dropping and surprising performances – and he showed us these lovable traits on NBC’s Saturday Night Live when he made a musical skit cameo.

Wicked Parody

In a sketch that parodied popular musicals such as West Side Story, Little Shop of Horrors, Phantom of the Opera, and Wicked, Gyllenhaal humorously poked fun at the LaGuardia Airport in New York City. Donned in pajamas, he owned the character of Elphaba from Wicked as he performed an electrifying parody of the musical’s iconic song, “Defying Gravity.”

The musical parody sketch featured John Mulaney (host and former SNL writer), David Byrne from Talking Heads (musical guest), Pete Davidson, Beck Bennet, Kenan Thompson, Kate McKinnon, Chris Redd, Bowen Yang, Cecily Strong, and Alex Moffatt.

Believe it or not, this is not the first time Gyllenhaal has showcased his prowess on the stage – he actually made his Broadway debut in the play Constellations back in 2015. He also starred in Sunday in the Park With George and the Broadway’s Slave Play. If you’re excited by Gyllenhaal’s stage performances, mark your calendar for April when he appears in the upcoming musical, Caroline, or Change.
