Wicked Deal in New Orleans – Lottery for $25 WICKED Tickets
If you’re bewitched by the theatrical magic of Broadway’s Wicked, but you’re too strapped to book an orchestra seat at the regular price, you wish might just come true. Wicked is returning to New Orleans (aka. The Big Easy) this October at the Saenger Theatre (1111 Canal St., New Orleans, LA, 70112) – and it comes along with a wickedly easy deal!
Prior to each performance, a few lucky theatergoers will have the chance to claim a limited number of orchestra seats for as low as $25. To put this into perspective, the regular ticket price for an orchestra seat goes for as high as $145.
The Award-winning Broadway musical is part of New Orleans’ Hancock Whitney Broadway 2019-2020 season – courtesy of the New Orleans Theatre Association. Starting from 2nd October all the way to 20th October, guests who arrive at the Saenger Theatre two and a half hours before a show will have the exciting opportunity to compete for the $25 Wicked tickets. The organizers will collect names of all eligible people and place them in a lottery drum, and the winners of the orchestra seats will be announced 30 minutes later.
So, who qualifies for the lottery draw? Eligible participants must avail themselves in person two and a half hours before a performance with a valid photo ID. If chosen, the winners can only pay the $25 in cash. Although there are plenty of chances to participate in the lottery, each person is limited to a maximum of two tickets per season. Below is the performance schedule:
- Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m.
- Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Oct. 3.
- Fridays at 8 p.m.
- Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
- Sundays at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
If you’ve not already received the memo, Wicked tells the tale of the Land of OZ we’re all familiar with – but with a twist. The story is set at a time long before the slipper-clapping Dorothy mysteriously arrives from Kansas. It highlights the unlikely friendship of a fiery, misunderstood witch with emerald-green skin, and a bubbly, popular witch with blonde hair.
This story, which is based on a novel by Gregory Maguire and a book by Winnie Holzman, coupled with an ingenious production and musical staging has won the hearts of critics and theatergoers around the world. There are over 100 awards from around the globe gracing Wicked’s trophy cabinet.
“A magical Broadway musical with brains, heart, and courage.”
